Additional Information
Mr. Ryan De Torres and colleagues conducted an integrative review titled “Reviews of Interventions to Promote Culturally Congruent Care for Sexual and Gender minorities” that reviewed various interventions aimed at promoting culturally congruent care for Sexual and Gender Minorities, focusing on aims, development, content, delivery, structure, and outcomes. (SGM). Whittemore and Knaff’s integrative method was used for this study. Systematic searches using databases of CINHAL Complete and PubMed. Inclusion criteria: primary research studies published in English focus on interventions for SGMs.
This integrative review illuminated that sexual and gender minorities face higher risks of healthcare disparities and medical problems. The authors found that stigmatization, discrimination, and lack of cultural competence among healthcare providers contribute to these healthcare issues. Developing interventions to culturally promote congruent care culturally includes identifying service delivery gaps, expert collaboration, and training on culturally congruent care. The results found that culturally congruent, comprehensive, multi-method interventions are more likely to achieve a successful outcome. It was concluded that culturally congruent care interventions promote optimal health outcomes and effective care delivery for SGMs.
