Program Description:
Join us for an engaging conversation with Dr. Shirley Gordon as she shares the story behind her Theory of Shared Vulnerability, its use across disciplines, and where this work may lead in the future.
Speakers
Dr. Shirley C. Gordon is Professor Emerita at Florida Atlantic University’s Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing, where she served as Assistant Dean of Graduate Practice Programs and led the Holistic Nursing master’s concentration. She is board certified in Advanced Holistic Nursing and Health and Wellness Nurse Coaching. Dr. Gordon is internationally recognized for her scholarship and theory development focused on caring for families and children living with chronic and socially stigmatized conditions, including persistent head lice infestations and the long-term human health effects of harmful algal blooms. Her work integrates holistic caring science values with community-based and culturally meaningful responsive approaches to care. She has received national and international recognition for her contributions to nursing education and caring science, including the National Outstanding School Nurse Educator Award (National Association of School Nurses) and the Legacy of Caring Award from the International Association of Human Caring. Dr. Gordon is a Distinguished Scholar of the Global Academy of Holistic Nurses and currently serves as Chair of the Academy. In addition to her academic leadership, Dr. Gordon has an extensive record of community and public service, serving on advisory boards and expert panels focused on child and family health, participating in the U.S. Federal Medical Reserve Nurse Corps, and reviewing grants for national and regional organizations.
